  22. Although I applaud your approach to software publishing, I must point out that there 
  23. is no "carrot and stick" metaphor where the stick is used for punishment and the 
  24. carrot for reward - although it is commonly misused in this fashion.

  26. The carrot is dangled on a stick in front of the intended target for motivational 
  27. purposes.  The target (a donkey in the traditional tale as I recall) is motivated by 
  28. the reward of the carrot - should he ever figure out how to reach it. He walks, the 
  29. cart moves, and all are happy (except the donkey, who never does figure out why he 
  30. can't walk far enough to reach the carrot...).
